In 1908, Fritz Meinen, a farmer and master butcher, founded the company Meica in Edewecht. The town of Edewecht is located in northwest Germany, surrounded by the beautiful park-like landscape of the Ammerland and close to the Zwischenahner Meer. Here, in the far north, we keep our traditions alive – in sports (“Boßeln” = road bowling), in our language (“Plattdeutsch” = Low German) and in our regional dishes. Of course this holds true for Meica, too. It’s not that we only speak “Platt” or spend our lunch break with a rousing game of Boßeln. However, tradition and regionality are as important to us today as they were to Fritz Meinen in 1908. After all, almost a century later Meica is still a medium-sized company under family ownership. Company founder Fritz Meinen began the production of our good, home-made sausage specialties in 1908. In the early days, he delivered his goods by bicycle to the neighbouring towns and villages. However, word of the quality and unique taste of his sausages soon spread beyond the Ammerland, and today, Meica sausages can be found on the shelves of just about all German supermarkets and in shops in more than 30 other countries. Every week, many millions of quality sausages are produced and consumed.
